Hawksearch provides you with complete control over the display of user's auto-complete choices so you can make sure they are seeing the products and items that you want to promote. This guide will show you how to hide or display top product categories, popular searches, and top product matches.



Navigating to the Auto-complete Home Page


1) To navigate to the Auto-complete Administration page, click on the "Workbench" tab in the top navigation.

2) Then, select "Keyword Search" from the left navigation. Next, select "Auto-complete" from the subcategories.

3) If you would like to enable, disable, alter the number of product categories that display or select which categories will be displayed click the "Update Top Product Categories" button.

4) If you would like to enable, disable, alter the number of product matches that display or customize the display of Top Product Matches, click the "Update Top Product Matches" button.

5) If you would like to enable, disable, customize, or alter the number of content matches that display, click the "Update Top Content Matches" button.

6) If you would like to enable, disable, or change the composition of the popular search terms, click the "Update Popular Searches" button.



Update Top Product Categories 


When you arrive on the Top Product Categories, you will have options to enable the feature, determine how many facets should display, and choose which facets are included in the display. The Auto-complete feature provides suggested search terms underneath the search box that narrow as your customer continues to type more characters into the search box. Enabling Top Product Categories allows you to determine which facets will display in the Auto-Complete feature.

1) To enable the feature on the front-end of the site, switch the radio button next to "Is Enabled" to "on". 

2) Next, specify how many facets you would like to display. You have the option to display up to five top facets.

3) Then, review the list of facets and select the ones that you would like to have displayed. You can select up to five. Click the "On " radio button next to the ones you want displayed. 

4) Finally, click the "Save" button after you have completed all of your edits.



Top Product Matches


The Edit Top Products Administration page allows you to enable this feature on the front- end, specify how many products should be displayed in the Auto-complete field, and also control the display style of the products using HTML. For example, you may include a photo, change the font, or make other adjustments to the look of the auto-complete box.

1) To enable the auto-complete feature on the front-end, click "yes" next to the "Is Enabled" field.

2) Next, specify the number of results that you would like your customer to see. You can specify up to five.

3) Finally, you have the ability to make changes to the display of the results. Hawksearch strongly recommends that you only allow developers with experience in HTML to make these adjustments. If you do not have a developer on staff and need help making the display changes, please feel free contact someone at Hawksearch and we will be happy to assist you.

4) Finally, click the "Save" button after you have completed all of your edits.



Update the Top Content Matches


The Edit Top Content Administration page allows you to enable this feature on the front- end, specify how much content should be displayed in the Auto-complete field, and also control the display style of the content. For example, you may include a photo, change the font, or make other adjustments to the look of the auto-complete box.

1) To enable the auto-complete feature for suggested Top Content Matches on the front-end, move switch to "yes" next to the "Is Enabled"  radio switch.

2) Next, specify the number of content matches that you would like your customer to see. You can specify up to five.

3) Finally, you have the ability to make changes to the Auto-complete drop-down using HTML tags. Hawksearch strongly recommends that you only allow developers with experience in HTML to make these adjustments. 4) Finally, click the "Save" button after you have completed all of your edits.



Popular Searches / Top Queries 


Popular Search Terms will allow you to display popular search term at the top of the auto-complete. They are only displayed if the beginning of the keyword that you are typing matches the beginning of the term. The "Auto-complete Top Queries Administration" page provides you with options to enable the display of this section on the front-end, specify up to five slots for suggested terms, auto-generate popular searches, exclude terms from popular searches, and add popular search terms to your list.



Top Queries


The Top Queries section populates suggestions under the "Popular Searches" area of the auto-complete menu. Enabling this feature suggests searches that others have performed frequently and can save your customer time when searching for items

1) In order to enable the display of the popular search terms on the front-end, switch the "Is Enabled" radio switch to "on" .

2) Next, select the number of keyword terms you would like to have displayed. You may select up to five.



Auto-Generated Popular Searches


The search engine possesses the ability to create the keyword list used by the Auto-complete feature. There are two components that must be configured to set-up this process.

1) Select a "Date Range" for the duration of time the engine should collect the keyword terms. The default setting is the "Last Month". This can be adjusted by clicking on the drop down and selecting one of the other time ranges available

2) "Min. # of Searches?" allows you to set a minimum number of times that a keyword should be searched within the specified Date Range to be included in Popular Searches.  The default setting for the "Min. # of Searches" is five.

3) "Show top 50 Matching Keywords" will provide a list of the top 50 most frequently searched keywords.



Exclude from Popular Searches



You can remove keyword terms from the list of Popular Searches by adding them to the "Exclude from Popular Search Terms" text box. Keywords added to this list will no longer be returned as part of suggested "Popular Searches", regardless of if they match the above date and frequency ranges.  You can add words or phrases; just make sure that you separate distinct terms with commas.

1) You can remove keyword terms from the list that by adding them to the "Exclude from Popular Search Terms" text box. You can add words or phrases; just make sure that you hit the "enter/return" key between each entry.  

 2) The search feature allows you to search through popular search terms to determine words that are often searched that shouldn't appear in the auto-complete feature.   



Custom Popular Searches

This feature allows you to add terms that will show up in the Popular Searches section of Auto-complete even if the term hasn't fulfilled the parameters for the established "Date Range" and "Min. # of Searches". 

1) You can manipulate the popular terms that show up on auto complete by adding them to the "Custom Popular Search Terms" text box. You can add words or phrases; just make sure that you start each term on a new line.

2) Once you have made all of your changes in the Top Queries Administration Page, click the "Save" button to be returned to the Auto-complete home page.



Confirming Changes


Once you have completed all of your edits, you should be returned to the Auto-complete Administrative home page where you can confirm that your edits were saved.

After you confirm all changes, make sure you return to the "Workbench" home page and rebuild the index file. Your changes will not be displayed on the front-end until you take this final step.



Front-End Display of Auto Suggestion Categories


After the index has been rebuilt, your changes should now be reflected on the front-end of your website. The screenshot above is an example of how your settings should look if all options are enabled.

 



Auto-complete Layout

Tweak the look and feel of your site's Auto-complete with the Layout enhancement page. CSS styles are exposed to provide enough control. Instantly see the look and feel before it gets applied on your site. 


1) To navigate to the Auto-complete Layout page, click on the "Workbench" tab in the top navigation.

2) Then, select "Keyword Search" from the left navigation. Next, select "Auto-complete" from the subcategories.

3) Select the "Layout" tab at the top of the page.

4) Use the "Items Style" section to update individual attributes for each item.

5) Use the "Sections Style" section to update attributes for sections.

6) "Instant Search & Preview" let's you review changes to the styling that you have made. 

7) Once you have completed all of your updates, select "Save".
